One of the great pleasures of working at Comic Envy is getting to know our customers, both the occasional and the faithful weekly shoppers. Asheville is a wonderfully unique town - you never know who will walk through the door next! We aim to keep our stock as varied and delightful as our guests. We carry a huge range of comics, from the mainstream appeal of Marvel and DC to the growing popularity of independent publishers, such as Image, IDW, Dark Horse, and Boom. Additionally, Comic Envy carries a great selection of European comics and Japanese manga. Our expansive back-issue section is replenished regularly, and customers are free to pick through thousands of individually bagged and priced golden, silver, and bronze age comic books. We also stock supplies for preservation and storage. At Comic Envy, we try to stock classics while also highlighting new creators who are expanding the limits of the genre and industry.

The Comic Envy Story
Comic Envy opened in 2008, filling a much needed role as a hub for all of the nerdy types that call Asheville home. Founder Rile Naveen recognized the demand for centrally located comic shop with high customer service standards. As our wonderfully weird and unique customer base grew, we moved from our first location into a much more spacious building, increasing our ability to deliver geeky goodness! At the end of 2017 we shed our skin once again, and moved to the middle of Merrimon Avenue. In the summer of 2021, long-time employee Allison Jenkins took the captain’s chair, and looks forward to serving our community with energy and integrity.

Comics that appeal to (and are safe for!) kids are also a huge part of our store! We keep an entire section where you can find all of the best kid-appropriate books currently being published. Single issues, dollar comics, collected books and toys...we have everything a growing nerd could need! Our staff are always happy to review comics with parents, to make sure young readers aren't accidentally consuming something made for an older audience.
